West Bromwich Albion reveal Chile earthquake sponsor

Championship club West Bromwich Albion have announced that they will feature the “Help Chile” logo on the front of their kits during tonights league match against Sheffield Wednesday.

Current player Gonzalo Jara was in Santiago, Chile when the earthquake struck his homeland just over a week ago. The disaster killed hundreds of people whilst millions were affected through damage to their properties. As a result, the club has decided to help by donning the logo just as they did for the Haiti earthquake appeal previously.

Jeremy Pearce, West Brom chairman, said: “When we heard about the earthquake, we were greatly concerned about the well being of Gonzalo and his family and were relieved to hear they were safe. The fact one of our own players is at the scene of the earthquake and that his close family has been affected by it has brought this tragedy closer to home – and we wanted to play our part in raising funds for the aid effort. We have again decided to utilise the flexible nature of our shirt sponsorship, which we hope will encourage people to support the work of the Red Cross in the region. Gonzalo has also asked the Club to pledge any funds raised to the relief work being undertaken in his home city of Talcahuano, which we are only too happy to do.”

The club will also auction off the 18 shirts worn by the match squad to raise money for the disaster fund. The Baggies will hope to match or exceed the £25,000 raised during their Haiti campaign in January.
