The new Sunderland home shirt for the 2008/09 campaign is fairly similar to the previous one. The main change on this shirt is that the V neck collar blends in with the vertical stripes and there is a black insert just inside the collar. Personally, I don't mind this shirt but I feel a few simple things spoil it. Firstly for some reason the Umbro symbol is not directly opposite the club badge but is placed a lot higher. Secondly the sponsor takes up too much room by having a symbol then the written version. These little things turn a decent shirt into one which is a bit of a let down.
The new Sunderland away shirt is totally different to the white shirt produced for last season. Instead, manufacturers Umbro have gone with vertical blue and black stripes. It's not a bad shirt by any means but doesn't have the same appeal last season's "Bolton lookalike kit" which went down very well amongst fans. The new kit doesn't really have much about it and is a bit dull to tell the truth.
