Newcastle United enter the 2008/2009 Premier League season with the same home shirt as the previous campaign. The club has decided to stick with the traditional black and white vertical stripes made by manufacturers Adidas and sponsored by Northern Rock. Overall, this isn't a kit which is going to get very many people excited due to the lack of colour. However, it is far from a bad kit and the majority of Newcastle fans will be happy with the simplicity of the shirt.
Newcastle United debut a brand new away shirt for the 2008/2009 season. Personally, I'm not sure if this is a good move or not. I didn't mind the light blue and black number that Newcastle used last season. However, this season they have gone with a shirt that is verging on purple with white stripes running down the shoulders. My first impressions aren't great but I get the feeling this kit is going to grow on people throughout the season. Time will tell with this shirt.
Alongside the home and away kit, Newcastle United has also launched a new 3rd kit for the 2008/2009 season. Unfortunately it's just as horrible as last season's 3rd kit which was white with sky blue patterns and black Adidas stripes. The new kit is predominately silver with white Adidas stripes running down the shoulder. Several fans have already commented that the kit looks like "it's been made out of tin foil" and that it looks "tacky". Thankfully there shouldn't be too many occasions where this shirt will have to be worn.
