Newcastle to part ways with Adidas
Championship table toppers Newcastle United have announced that they will be parting ways from current kit manufacturers Adidas at the end of the 09/10 season.
Adidas, who have been associated with Newcastle United for 14 years, have become disillusioned with the negative publicity that has surrounded the club since Mike Ashley’s takeover. The global sportswear firm were also quick to distance themselves from the chairman’s controversial decision to rename St James Park which has not gone down well with supporters.
It looks as if Newcastle will agree a deal with Puma which will commence at the beginning of the 2010/11 campaign. It is thought that the club wanted to delay the news of the manufacturer change until after Christmas to ensure that kit sales remained high around the festive period.
In other news, Newcastle are likely to be on the look out for a new kit sponsor next season as Northern Rock’s deal with the club also expires at the end of the campaign.
