New Japan 2012-2013 Home Kit

The Japanese football team has unveiled their new home kit for the 2012 and 2013 seasons. The current Asian champions will have their first 2014 World Cup qualifier for 2012 in February.

Japan have an outstanding record in international football, and are one of the giants of the Asian continent in the sport. The Samurai’s didn’t qualify for the World Cup for the first time until 1998 or the AFC Asian Cup until 1988, but have done exceedingly well since their introductions to both tournaments. They have made the last four World Cups – twice making the second round – and have won four of the last seven Asian Cups – in 1992, 2000, 2004 and 2011. The current Japanese squad feature a range of young and experienced players – some which are becoming more and more prominent in European club football. Captain Hasebe plays for German side Wolfsburg, while 2010 World Cup star Keisuke Honda plays for CSKA Moscow in Russia, and fullback Nagatomo stars for Internazionale in Italy. Japan has their first competitive match for the year in February against Uzbekistan for the 2014 World Cup.

Japan’s new home kit is reasonably similar to their previous kits. Japan’s signature dark navy blue is the featured colour once again, whilst the red square below the collar has been replaced by a red line dividing the shirt through the centre – the red signifying unity in the nation. The emblems and Adidas’ logo stay in the same positions as before, with the white triple stripes remaining on the shoulders.
