Darlington reveal kit sponsor draw winners

League Two strugglers Darlington have revealed that the Moritt Arms Hotel will become the club’s sponsors during the 2010/11 campaign.

The deal came about after Darlington ran a competition that saw any interested companies pay £5,000 to be entered into a draw that would decide the sponsors of the club’s shirt. Seven companies took this option and the Moritt Arms was crowned the lucky winner.

Raj Singh, Darlington chairman, said: “We’re delighted with the support we’ve received from the local business community – not just with this campaign but on all corporate sides of the club – and we’re delighted for the Morritt. We’ve been working hard with our corporate fans and sponsors and the majority of our executive box holders have already committed to renew for next season.”

The team has had a dreadful season in League Two to date after financial problems caused them to have to sell players during the summer. Former manager Colin Todd could not halt the slide and was sacked after only a couple of months of the campaign. Steve Staunton was named as his replacement but failed to lift the club off the bottom of the table before he was sacked in mid March. The club are 16 points from safety with only ten games remaining so any replacement is likely to be preparing for next season in the Blue Square Premier.
