Home Kit

Personally, I am a big fan of the brand new Chelsea home kit released for the beginning of the 2008/2009 Premier League season. The thin yellow glint which runs around the new V neck collar and the bottom of the short sleeves gives the shirt a fresh and shiny approach. As a fan of the previous home shirt, I was slightly disappointed to see that the white line running from the collar round to the top of the arms had gone. I thought this provided a nice effect on the shirt by outlining the torso and the arms. The other major change is the sponsor now just reads "Samsung" with the "mobile" omitted from the shirt altogether. In my opinion this makes the shirt look a lot more blue than before which will please some people who thought the previous shirt incorporated too much white. On the whole, I would definitely recommend this shirt with my favourite part being the addition of the thin yellow stripes.

Away Chelsea Kit

I am not a big fan of the new Chelsea away shirt which will make its debut at the start of the 2008/2009 Premier League season. My first problem with it is that it looks remarkably like a traditional referee's top. The predominately black shirt with three trademark white Adidas stripes running down the arm and a white collar look incredibly plain. My other problem with the shirt is that it looks very similar to the black goalkeeper top that Petr Cech wore for the club last season and has no originality. Overall, I would have to recommend against buying this dull away shirt which almost makes me want the return of the yellow luminous shirt which was mercifully dumped at the end of last season.

Third

The new Chelsea 3rd kit launches on the 28th August and it's definitely going to split people. The new yellow shirt is certainly an improvement on the previous luminous shirt which received widespread criticism but I personally really liked last season's classic white 3rd kit and felt it was due a promotion to the proper away kit if anything. The new tone of yellow will really split people. The bright mango colour may not suit everyone who wears it but at least they won't be mistaken for traffic wardens. On the whole, I'm quite torn over this shirt. I like how the blue Adidas stripes blend in and take some of the sharpness away from the yellow. Nevertheless I can't help but feel that footballers look really out of place in bright yellow kits and although it's not the worst kit ever, it's certainly not for me.
